Project 3 Final Artist Statement

This video animation project was inspired by the struggles of being a student during the Coronavirus pandemic. During this time, students are faced with the same level of responsibilities despite the highly stressful environment and state of the world. After hours of studying, the college student begins to hallucinate and imagines that her pen is talking to her. She hallucinates that the pen is asking her to save it from dying when it runs out of ink. The scene transitions from real footage into animation when the student begins hallucinating. The animation depicts the student’s eyes in an exaggerated way to show that the student is not thinking or seeing clearly. The footage is left without heavy editing to resemble the relatable nature of the situation. Once the student realizes she is just sleep deprived, she comes back to reality. The video uses comic relief throughout the story line so that it is light and funny.
